How does Reggio Emilia fit with Te Whaariki.?
Both the Reggio Emilia Approach and the Early Childhood Curriculum: Te whāriki: He whāriki mātauranga mō ngā mokopuna o Aotearoa share similar values in relationship to early childhood education.
They both place an emphasis on recognising each child's individuality, competence, and communication skills, as outlined in Te Whāriki's aspirational statement:
'To grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body, and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society'. (Ministry of Education, 1996).
